Trump Tells Big Tech: No AI Regulation. Is He Right? | Mike Drop Newsroom

Welcome to Mike Drop Newsroom. Every morning, Mike reads the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times cover to cover, and then gives his take on the stories that matter.

Today's top stories: President Trump met with tech and AI leaders at the White House and made it clear that regulation isn't on the table. In the New York Times, OpenAI employees warned about security issues, including AI agents acting outside their programming. Also on the front pages: Americans in both parties are warming to populism as prices rise and want the government to step in, oil exports from the Middle East keep climbing, and a Ukrainian journalist writes about the war reaching her own neighborhood.

Mike's take: most people want AI regulated, and he agrees. Unlimited freedom doesn't make sense. But the real question is who does the regulating and who picks the regulators. Stories about AI agents going rogue make a kill switch hard to ignore. Even so, China's AI push means the U.S. can't afford to fall behind, especially in defense. On prices, he supports antitrust guardrails but warns that any authority we hand the government, we never get back.

Now it's your turn. Should AI be regulated? If so, who do you trust to pick the regulators? And should the government have the power to cap prices? Tell us in the comments. Mike is reading them, and your answers will shape future episodes.
